REVIEW - THE SECRETS WE KEEP
You may already know about operation paper clip if not, after the 2nd would war America offered sanctuary to a lot of Nazi scientists giving them new identities in exchange for working on the space program, also a number of escaping Nazis went to Switzerland in an attempt to escape and stole identities of people dying in hospital in an attempt to escape to America.
Of course the war crimes these people committed are very well documented but what if by some chance whilst out you happened to see one of the Nazis who during the war had tortured and raped you.
This is what happens in this film BUT is he an escaped Nazi officer or is he just an innocent guy who has moved to America.
Thoroughly enjoyed this film as it doesn't hold any punches in telling what happened, what is happening now and the long term effects something like this can have on both the victim and their partner.

Harrowing at times
The best of the two.
I was curious from the posts i read so I watched Death and the Maiden, which I thought was good but obviously a dated movie that took place in one or two rooms for the most part and had a strange and unsatisfying ending. Then I watched The Secrets We Keep and was blown away. I admit to being a fan of Noomi Rapace, and I think she can play the role of a tortured woman better than anyone I've ever seen (ie: Dragon Tattoo movies). For my money it was the best of the two and I rated it as such.
Much better film than the reviews indicate.
As a rule I hate hostage and kidnapping movies. I'm not sure why, except that it's seems lazy and trite to me. This film works on many levels. It's a beautiful looking film. Very interesting framing. Every shot looks great. The acting is top notch. I will watch Naomi in anything she does. It's a thriller and it had me on the edge of my seat. I do wonder if it was any other actress playing the lead if it would have worked though, but she is so good I was hooked from the start.
