    Kill me now

In all fairness to this film, take my review with a grain of salt. I'm a nineteen-year-old viewer who finds My Little Pony childish and dopey, the brony phenomenon just a case of nerds who refuse to grow up, and the animation to look cheap and painful. Of course I'm biased. That being said, if you're looking for a good clean family film to numb your brain with and enchant your three-year-olds, this one's not a bad choice. If your kids are already fans of the show, this film is more or less just a longer version of it, much like the Bratz animated films that were huge in the early 2000's when I was still in elementary school. You'll get similar Flash animation and audio, the same ever-popular themes of friendship, unity and respect among other things, and unlike a lot of children's animated works to grace the silver screen these days, you won't get any vulgarity or crude sex/fart jokes, so that's definitely a bonus if you want a simple, clean family film. If you're an adult lone viewer going into it and you've never seen My Little Pony before, you'll either really love it or hate it with a burning passion like you've never felt before. It's a very unrealistic utopian look at how the world should be, which is all well and good if that's what floats your boat, but it's so sickeningly rainbow and glittery and perfect that it's a complete bore-fest to me, and the voices - oh lord, the voices! It takes me back to the days of having my English teacher drag her fingernails down the chalkboard to get my attention! ARRGH! What a headache! It's simply annoying and preachy to me, and really doesn't offer much in the way of a well-developed plot or a solid story with any sort of actual meaning to it. I wasn't expecting some pretentious philosophical sermon in this film, but why couldn't there be more to it than exactly what you'd expect? I'm sorry, but I just can't force myself onto the big fat bandwagon for these stupid cartoon horses, no matter how often my friends drag me to the movies to see them.

Have An Open Mind and Look Beyond the Cuteness and Fluff

I've heard so much of this movie at a panel at the 2017 San Diego Comic-Con, so I was curious to know what makes the hype grow so strongly among its committed fans. When I learned of familiar guest celebs involved like Zoe Saldana, Kristin Chenoweth, Michael Peña, Taye Diggs, and Sia, I just had to see what makes it work. The story goes, in the land of Equestria, Twilight Sparkle has the duties of a princess in the Kingdom of Canterlot. But when a mysterious dark force lead by Tempest Shadow and the villainous Storm King invade the land, it's up to Twilight and her pony friends to put a stop to the chaos.Admittedly, I was never into its TV show from the very beginning, but thanks to some insight from my younger niece and a few fans I've met at the convention and social media, I've gained newfound respect for it. Since this movie derived from the 2010 TV series, it looks legitimately like an animated film and not an extended episode. I certainly don't regret watching every minute of it. Like it's leaning toward the quality Don Bluth once did with his animated films in the 80s.While big-name animation studios like Disney, DreamWorks, and Illumination are dominating at the box office with their CGI films, Lionsgate and Hasbro definitely unveiled a flick that relies on the very animation medium that truly began over a century ago: Traditional 2-D. And the songs both lighthearted and dramatic began to remind me of the non-Disney animated titles I remember as a kid. I say no matter how old you are or what your interests may be, "My Little Pony: The Movie" is definitely a must-see for all because underneath its cute, whimsical exterior, there's a sense of morals that can pertain to real-life. Plot-wise it's not a perfect movie with a not-so-threatening villain (most likely a way to attract newcomers to the series), but the guest voices delivered great performances right alongside the original main cast from the TV show. It's also noteworthy in seeing that 2-D is still pretty much alive in the animation field. Worth a look.

    Fun

Yeah, this film isn't a masterpiece, but it's definitely fun and should keep the children entertained. Not animated as fluidly as some films, but the bright colors and scenery design are really eye-catching. Songs range from decent to pretty good. (Especially like the villain song.)Now the film's plot isn't the tightest or most original. In order to stop a great threat, the heroes go an adventure through several places where they meet several characters. Not a a lot of time is spent on each new character and location and it does kind of draw away from the main ponies, who there are quite a few to keep track of anyway. Still, the films saves itself with all the little moments. The characters are all fun and there so many little lines and visual gags that are pretty good sprinkled throughout.
