Smaller spoilers, nothing that ruins the plot.
In short:
If you like Samurai movies, this is not one to pass by. The costume is up to par, the makeup is maybe a lil to little gritty, but that is the normal case for Samurai movies. The effects are good enough to keep the story going, and not to mention CGI is kept to an absolute minimum which is a relief. Use for some kill shots, using real blades as much as possible. Real effects are always to prefer, some things can be hard to create in reality though. If you like Samurai movies where the protagonist isn't a superhuman blade swining deathmachine, this viewing would be for you. Though it must be said that one or two of the injuries that the hero receives would be hard to survive (given the blades were as sharp as shown). Note the cinematography and story have a little slant towards the saga'esque.
Pro's
Costume
Storyline
Possibly a sequel coming (?)
Con's
The overacting towards the end from one of the antagonists
Some moments feel way too much as post year 2000.
Semi open ending
End notes:
Reminiscent of Shundo (2013) but with a brighter storyline and costume/backdrop in execution.
