Even though I knew nothing about taxidermy and very little about Bigfoot, I was surprised how much I enjoyed Big Fur. The movie draws us into the world of award winning taxidermist Ken Walker, a Canadian that is also obsessed with finding Bigfoot. So he puts his imposing talents to work creating his own life-sized stuffed version. Somehow this movie also involves a world championship, Roy Orbison impersonations and a heartbreaking romance that I didn't see coming at all. It's all very unusual, but surprisingly touching.
World Champion taxidermist Ken Walker builds a life-sized Bigfoot, based on frames from an iconic 1967 movie, and unveils her at the 2015 World Taxidermy Championship. While Walker would love to win Best in Show, his real hope is that putting "Patty" on display will prompt some hunter to open his freezer and pull out the proof that Bigfoot is real. Instead, it's Walker's love life that gets thawed out.
