Synopsis

Kaufman's Game follows Stanley, a driven young man with a passion for boxing, who is keen to improve his strength and stamina. When a shady stranger approaches him outside the gym with the offer of a specially produced steroid, Stanley is drawn into the ever more violent operations of a powerful organization, unwittingly entering into a series of tests designed to prove his mettle. This is a film about power, determination and being your own worst enemy. It celebrates the archetypes of classic Film Noir, and the dark, conspiratorial storytelling technique of Franz Kafka, but with a contemporary minimalist aesthetic..

    I don't understand.

Stanley (Jye Frasca) is unemployed and is an amateur boxer, although we never see him fight, just work out. A stranger named Fader (Toby Osmond) approaches Stanley and offers him free drugs to enhance his workouts. Stanley wants more and Fader wants a favor, but first he must meet Kaufman (Tor Andreas Fagerland) which gives us clues to their relationship and what is happening in this slow moving film. A theme is stated at the end, which is we all play mind games, and may not even realize it. It didn't seem to fit as the mind game was overt (and in the title) and not subliminal as the message implied. Characters came across as lifeless and dull. Guide: No swearing that I recall. No sex or nudity.

1 star because the ordeal ends

The most entertaining thing about this movie are the three 'Shills' (so far) that have submitted gushing reviews. Click on each of the reviewers and you might be amazed to find that this abomination is the only film they're reviewed. Shills and amoeba both have one thing common, just the one braincell. The movie is one of those 'straight to the garbage bin' titles.

    Pointless

I notice I am the first to review this movie. I could not recommend it to anybody as it is so inane that the award of one star should be considered generous. Plausibility is thrown out the window when a would-be boxer accepts anabolic steroids from a complete stranger, in return it seems at first, for nothing. The so called plot then moves at a snail's pace, quite often without a script This review contains no spoilers because I do not know how it ended even though I watched the full movie! I'm sorry that I cannot provide something positive about a film in which there are no sympathetic characters, the script rarely propels any plot, incidents revealed are quite implausible...but the music was good in parts.
