Synopsis

My name is Ruo-Nan, the reason why I'm making this video is I hope that people could help me lift the curse bestowed upon my daughter after watching what I have to say. Because of my ignorance, I never thought that it was my actions that brought the curse. The following content may contain certain hidden dangers and risks, which includes myself retelling the horrifying encounters that happened six years ago. 6 years ago, I set up a studio "Ghostbusters" with my boyfriend and my journalism classmates, we aimed to break myths of superstitions and shared them on our blog. One day, an urgent notice arrived from my boyfriend's home, calling him to return for an ancient cult ritual that occurs once every two decades in his family. Thinking it would be decent material for our blog, we all arrived for the ritual. Unfortunately we then experienced the most horrific ancient curse there..

    the most intense horror ever

The film opens to have viewer to participate and drags us into the situation as soon as the movie begin.I was skeptical of the fuss surrounding this film, so I went to see it alone, which isn't recommended. The movie filled with all elements a horror film should be. Story, environment, sound effect, casting, lightning. Brilliant work of the director, cast and crew. The only horror that made me scared, is this one.If you are lucky to be in Taiwan, go see the film as it has English subtitle, and while the theater still opens with worsening pandemic. No word to describe, and I hope it does the same to you.

Do Mockumentary Horror Movies still scare people today?

Since The Blair Witch Project was released, there has been a flourishing of horror mockumentaries, but few of them have become blockbusters, and even the spin-offs of The Blair Witch Project failed to catch people's attention. It may be related to the creative fatigue, in that audiences have seen the same creative techniques used too many times. Additionally, the popularity of the internet also makes old-fashioned promotions less convincing. Are Horror mockumentaries less scary? A Taiwanese movie director found that the intrinsic fear of gods still exists in the disenchanted modern society. As soon as people who crave money and power make deals with gods or devils, they will be afraid of being cursed if they don't pay off their debt. With this knowledge, the cinematography of the movie used an innovative approach to manipulate the audience by stretching their religious conviction or disbelief. In the latest Taiwanese mockumentary, a message was sent to the audience by the main character, Ruo-Nen Lee, who has separated with her child for five years because of her mental issues and secrets from the past. The desperate mom took some videos and asked for anyone who could help them by praying for her child. The incantation that Lee told audiences was not a prayer but a prayer that will curse whoever speaks it or even think about it. Once audiences accept the request, they soon fall into the director's trap that he set to awake Taiwanese audiences to their deepest fear of God. The new Taiwanese horror mockumentary, Incantation, added the element of audience interaction which is a breath of fresh air to the horror movies fans. During the scenes where audiences were forced to figure out the message sent from the main character without closing their eyes, the scary scenes greeted the people without any preparation. From my point of view, the reason the movie became the latest smash is the masquerade of the main character's intention. The real message behind the request was trying to share the curse with anyone who had watched it and the lurid details of the devilish message still haunted people who finally understood Lee's malice. This same "artifice" was also used in the famous Japanese movie The Ring in 1998, as anyone who watched the videotape and did not share the curse would die in seven days. The Blair Witch Project still resonates today, but nowadays many horror movie directors and screenwriters are struggling to come out with new ideas that can frighten people severely. By and large, I think the new Taiwanese horror mockumentary, Incantation, has clawed its way back from the common horror mockumentary cliches and is ready to be nominated for the scariest movie of 2022.P. S. I should have mentioned Paranormal Activity, but I didn't.
